The legend behind this phrase tells the story of King Solomon asking his head servant to come up with something impossible: a magic ring. If a sad man wore it, he would become happy and if a happy man wore it, he would become sad. Since the servant could not possibly find such a ring, King Solomon took over and together with a jeweler, designed a ring with the Hebrew inscription “Gam Ze Ya’avor,” which means, “This, too, shall pass.” Over the years this phrase has been widely used as a comforting speech element that was true and appropriate in “all times and situations”.
